Being the small church we are, we decided to join our Episcopal brothers and sisters in Christ earlier this evening for a wonderful Ash Wednesday service. And so the journey has begun yet again into the season of Lent. Lent is a season of repentance and prayer, reflection and renewal, of which are designed in particular to prepare the believing community for what will take place during Holy Week. This is a time for believers in Christ to reclaim their identity as those who had been buried with Chris in baptism and raised with him to new life.
The word 'Lent' is an old Saxon word which simply means 'spring'. Lent has often been viewed as a time for 'giving up something' in order to gain something new. This is all done in preparation for the great celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ. However, Lent can also have great value when
